General Success Story: How Agriflight accelerates drone innovation with AgrifoodTEF

Agriflight from Overijse is a pioneer in the drone sector. It is the first company in Belgium with a license for professional drone flights in agriculture. They don't just fly around. They collect data with high-tech cameras and perform tasks in the field such as sowing and spraying.

To take their services to a higher level, they sought collaboration. They knocked on the door of AgrifoodTEF Flanders at ILVO for technical validation and extra testing capacity.

Pioneering in a strict market

The demand for drones in agriculture is growing rapidly. Companies are looking for sustainable ways to use fewer chemical agents and work more efficiently. However, starting in Belgium is not easy. The regulations are strict and complex, especially for spraying and spreading there are hard rules.

Agriflight wanted to grow and guarantee the quality of their services. For this, they needed technical evidence and extra testing capacity to further professionalize their operations.

Testing and validating in practice

Through AgrifoodTEF, Agriflight gained access to the expertise and infrastructure of ILVO. Together, we set up an intensive trajectory.

  • Realistic test environment: We sowed a special test plot with various crops. This was the ideal terrain for a series of test flights.
  • Building expertise together: We learned to work together with the advanced DJI Dock 2 system. This way we could perfectly install and manage the autonomous missions.
  • Thorough validation: The ILVO drone team analyzed everything. From flight paths and location data to the quality of the images after processing.

The result: time savings and new clients

The collaboration delivered directly measurable results for Agriflight.

  • 40 hours of time savings: ILVO conducted about 20 test flights. This saved Agriflight at least 40 hours of operational work. This gave them time for client acquisition.
  • Better quality: Expert validation ensured more precise data and more reliable flights.
  • New clients: Agriflight participated in our demo events. This resulted in more visibility and even new paying clients.
  • Knowledge sharing: By working directly together, Agriflight's technical knowledge has grown significantly.

The future: from pilot to consultant
