Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are transforming the agricultural sector at a rapid pace. But how do developers ensure these smart technologies are not only efficient, but also ethical, legal, and socially responsible?

Trust is the key to successful adoption. With the approaching European AI legislation, it is crucial to address aspects like privacy, safety, and potential bias right in the design phase. Waiting until a product is finished often means costly adjustments afterward.

To help agri-tech developers, start-ups, and EDIHs with this, AgrifoodTEF is introducing the ELSA Scan and an accompanying training.

What is the ELSA Scan?

The ELSA Scan is an AgrifoodTEF service that helps teams to evaluate Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects (ELSA) early on. Through surveys and interviews, potential risks are identified, even before significant time and money have been invested.

This approach not only helps in complying with complex legislation, but also strengthens end-user trust and the societal acceptance of the technology.
